Chamonix is of course world renowned as a winter sports destination. But once the snow has melted, lush green meadows appear below the white snow-capped mountains and the clear blue skies, creating truly stunning surroundings. Some of the highest and most stunning peaks in Europe become accessible, easily by lift within a few minutes or after several days of arduous effort. As a destination it has a reputation for the extreme and this, whilst undoubtedly true, can mask a wide array of sporting and leisure activities particularly in summer, peace and quiet, great nightlife, and superb scenery which can be enjoyed at whichever pace suits you. Whatever your interests, a trip to Chamonix in the summer will surely not disappoint! |

The majority of things to do in Chamonix relate to being outdoors, and whilst there are many organised activities, getting out there is mainly what it is about - at a leisurely pace or at warp speed, it's up to you.

Situated in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Chamonix is bordered by Switzerland and Italy and dominated by the incredible Aiguilles de Chamonix mountain chain which peaks at the top of Mont Blanc (4810m) - the highest in Western Europe. Whilst the principal town is of the same name, 'Chamonix' is often used in reference to the whole valley, stretching over 28km from Le Fayet to Switzerland. It is, however, made up of several distinct and charming villages including Servoz, Les Houches, Les Bossons, Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentiere, Montroc, and at the top of the valley, Le Tour. As such, there are six separate lift systems in the valley, each offering a wide variety of activities.

The Chamonix Valley consists of six separate lift areas that cater for a whole host of individuals - from skiers and snowboarders, mountaineers and climbers, hikers and mountain bikers, to those simply wishing to enjoy the more leisurely pursuit of admiring the beauty of the surrounding mountains. With such variety on your doorstep, it makes sense that there are a number of different lift passes available so that you can tailor your purchase to the ability and preferences of your group.
Lift passes are available from the base of each lift station, the Montenvers railway cash desk or in advance on-line purchases can be made via the Compagnie du Mont Blanc website.
