As well as being thought of as the 'alpine capital of the world', Chamonix is synonymous with extreme sports and the legendary Mont-Blanc. It is the destination of choice for many mountaineers, climbers, hikers, mountain bikers, and of course, extreme skiers and snowboarders. The majority of things to do in Chamonix relate to being outdoors, and whilst there are many organised activities, getting out there is mainly what it is about - at a leisurely pace or at warp speed, it's up to you.

Chamonix markets its image as an extreme sports destination, however, this doesn't make it unsuitable for families with children to visit. Obviously the main activity in winter is skiing and snowboarding and there are a number of ski schools who offer kids' lessons and may also arrange child-minding, pick-up services, and other activities.
