Parc de Merlet, Les Houches

Chamonix Nature Park

The animals of Parc de Merlet welcome you to their mountain home! Marmots, chamois, bouquetins, llamas, mountain goats and deer can all be seen at the park. A gentle walk guides you around the woodland and meadows where you can come face to face with alpine creatures, in their natural environment.

All of the paths are family-friendly and some can be accessed by pushchair. For those who enjoy a challenge, why not hike up from Lac Gaillands in the Chamonix Valley?

During the summer months (1st May - 30th September) Parc de Merlet is open every day except Mondays from 10am to 6pm. During the peak months of July and August the park opens every day from 9.30am to 7.30pm, including Mondays. One of our top tips is to arrive early when the animals have just been fed or to make an evening visit when they are coming out to play!

The park is closed for most of the winter but makes special openings on a Tuesday afternoon throughout the Christmas and Easter holidays (weather dependent, enquire at the Tourist Office if unsure). These openings include a guided walk around the park with commentary and an afternoon tea of hot drinks and a tasty snack.

The information chalet will tell you all you need to know about the furry inhabitants of the park and it also has an exhibition of the history of Parc de Merlet.

During the summer Parc de Merlet also has a cafe serving light meals, snacks, ice creams and hot and cold drinks. Gifts and souvenirs can be bought at the shop.
