The association was created by local men who knew the surrounding mountains inside out. Today, it has a reputation as one of the most prestigious mountaineering associations in existence and has an impressive team of 150 mountain and trekking guides whose passion for the mountains remains evident.

Home to some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the world, a trip to the Chamonix Valley is barely complete without experiencing its mountains first hand. For those who enjoy a little physical effort, the Compagnie des Guides has something to satisfy even the most adventurous of tastes, offering an array of activities including: mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, guided day hikes and longer tours and the ultimate ascension of Mont Blanc.
If you are a nature lover, the mountain guides can take you on a wide range of adventures to show you all the riches the mountains have to offer. From day long nature hikes to classic mid range tours such as the Haute Route (Chamonix to Zermatt) or the Tour de Mont Blanc, the Compagnie des Guides has an itinerary to suit. For those prepared for some serious graft, from mid-June to September they offer a 2 day ascent of Mont Blanc (max 2 people). If you are not already experienced in high altitude mountaineering you are strongly advised to take part in a technical day a few days before your climb to acclimatise and familiarise yourself with some of the techniques and equipment you will need (cramponing, tie-in technique etc) resulting in a more enjoyable experience.
The surrounding mountain scenery and glaciers make exploring the Chamonix valley a unique experience. Their programmes are easily adaptable to your ability and aspirations resulting in the kind of mountain experience that dreams are made of!
