The Chamonet.Com Chamonix Après Ski Report

 Apres-ski in Chamonix
It all started with our Snow Report, now we have employed our own 'Apres-ski Instructor' with the latest round of the the goings on 'off the piste' (or should that be 'on the piste'!) in the resort's bars and clubs, as well as other interesting venues. Events, celebrities, paparazzis, glam, glitter, big nights out and the hangover- we will endeavour to be reporting them here, if we can remember what happened...

Chamonix Apres-ski Report - No Limits rocking the Chambre 9 Chamonix Apres-ski Report - Full to the rafters Chamonix Apres-ski Report - Eric rocking his guitar Chamonix Apres-ski Report - The official "last song" talk Chamonix Apres-ski Report - Sing louder at the back!!!!

Apres ski at Chambre has been going off this week! Even more so than usual if that is possible. There have been breasts flashed and a completely naked man hoisted high above the crowd – and this was only Sunday! I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of après ski in this bar! Needless to say, the crowd have kept coming back for more and it still remains the don’t miss après venue for a trip to Chamonix.

No Limits are the resident band this year and on the board outside they proclaim to play “an orgy of hits”. No lies there, and for me, they play by far and away the best set in town with songs spanning 3 decades from ACDC, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and a little bit of Aha to get the Norwegians going! The line up has changed a bit during the season with Alex being replaced by Eric on lead guitar a couple of weeks ago. He certainly took no time to make an impression on the crowd with his low slung guitar and wide legged stance, he oozes rock from every pore and has no shortage of fans. A newly shaven headed Johan, on bass, is also finishing up this week and so we will have a new bassist to check out from Sunday. However, no matter how much you shout, scream and stamp your feet, there are certain songs that they will never play, namely; Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol) and Killing in the Name (Rage Against the Machine). Why? Because these are Balboas songs and No Limits are not going to mess with the memory. You may get a few bars of Seven Nation Army out of them, but that is generally just to shut the crowd up who bay for this song constantly. Regardless of that, with their massive repertoire of classic songs, rock is definitely back on the menu at Chambre 9 apres.

However, if you are coming out next weekend (13th) then consider yourself blessed from above, as word on the street is that The Balboas (yes, the real ones!) will be playing back on their old stage at Chambre for one night only on Saturday 13th at après. We are sure that all the old favourites will be on the play list for this gig and this is definitely going to be an event to come down early off the hill for, to make sure you get the very best table to dance on!

This weekend though has got some mahoosive parties coming up, with both the Winter Sessions Crew and Le Vert pulling out all the stops tomorrow night (Friday). Winter Sessions are hosting another star studded night at Le Podium bar with the legendary E-Z Rollers of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame, most renowned for title track in Guy Ritchie’s blockbuster movie and their funky, easy rolling style drum n bass. In Room 2, Mix Mag ‘New DJ of the Year’ Mark Henning, aka Messy MC plays his own brand of house and techno supported by the rock steady Winter Sessions Crew; Joe Volpeliere, Tony Chopin and Corin Martin. As always tickets are on sale at Zero G, Cantina, the Tourist Office, Le Podium and Monkey Bar and cost €12 in advance or €15 on the door. You can also buy them on line here and doors open at 10pm.

Meanwhile Le Vert has got another Fingerlickin Records Frenzy featuring a double headline from Soul of Man and the outstanding A-Skills for a night of breakbeats. Entry is free but if you book a table of 6 for dinner in their restaurant before 9pm, you’ll get a free bottle of vodka thrown in as well. Doors close at capacity and the fun will go on til 3am.

If any of you were looking for the speed ski challenge that I mentioned in last weeks report, unfortunately it got cancelled due to poor weather. Good news however as it’s been re-scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday on the Chavannes piste at Flegere. €2 per descent and loads of great prizes up for grabs.

There’s the usual array of après gigs and party nights on throughout the week, so make sure you check out the What’s On Calendar below for more ideas on where to spend your beer tokens this week.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the What's On Calendar for a full list of events over the winter season. You can also find full Bar and Restaurant listings in the Dining and Going Out section of the site.
