Insted Language School is located in central Chamonix and offers language courses to local businesses, individuals and visitors who wish to learn or improve their language skills, throughout the year.

Insted was established in 1999 with the aim of encouraging students to combine their language studies with their passion for the mountains. Whether you want to stay for a week, spend a classic four month ski season in the Alps or combine your French studies with exciting summer activities such as trekking, mountain biking or climbing, they have the course to suit!

As well as French courses, the school also offer tailor made courses in English, Russian, Spanish and Italian.

Their Climbing and Study Language Courses include:

  • Climbing Course: which includes session son Sport Climbing and Alpinism
  • Glacier Awareness Course: which includes Theory, Rope Techniques, Use of Glacier Equipment and Rescue.
  • Mountain Medicine: covering Altitude Sickness, Energy & Nutrition in the Mountains, Frostbite and Hypothermia.

Their Ski and Study Language Course include:

  • Avalanche Awareness Course: covering the theory and practice of avalanches, probe, shovel and transceiver training.
  • Glacier Awareness Course: which includes Theory, Rope Techniques, Use of Glacier Equipment and Rescue.
  • Mountain Medicine: covering Altitude Sickness, Energy & Nutrition in the Mountains, Frostbite and Hypothermia.

Qualifications

Students at Insted have the possibility to take the international French diplomas - TCF DELF/DALF.

They also work together with the university (CUEF) Stendhal who give you the possibility to convert your full-time studies to something that is called ECTS-credits, which stands for European Credits Transfer System. One week of fulltime studies corresponds roughly to one ECTS-credit.

Accommodation arrangements

Insted guarantee accommodation for all their students and offer shared rooms, private rooms and private apartment starting from €460 per month. All their apartments are situated in the centre of town within walking distance to the school, central ski lifts, trains and buses.
