Glaciological rambles at Montenvers Mer de Glace

Learn about the birth, life and future of the legendary Chamonix glacier

featured in Events calendar Updated

Take a guided ramble up to the Mer de Glace with guide Luc Moreau when you visit the Mer de Glace in the Toussaint half term holidays.

From the glacier du Bois to the Mer de Glace, take a guided, glaciological ramble to discover the birth, the life & the future of a legendary glacier.

The present day climatic phenomena, the front page news & our visits to sites such as the Montenvers or the Aiguille du Midi in the Chamonix valley, give us daily thought as to our past, present &, above all, our future in view of the dramatic changes in nature & the environment.

In our region, in our valley, who better than the glaciers can bear witness to the evolution of our climate, of man’s deeds or simply of the passing of time?

In order to foster a better understanding of these fragile ice giants, & notably the Mer de Glace, one of Europe’s last living glaciers, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc organises glaciological rambles in the company of an eminent glaciologist, Luc Moreau. These rambles, organised during the Halloween half-term holidays, are free of charge (included in all valid passes & “Voyage à la Mer de Glace” tickets).

On the path to the moraine with its easy access from the arrival terrace, Luc MOREAU will accompany you for about 45 minutes to give you the benefit of his scientific knowledge, to share his passion for glaciers & to answer all your questions on this vital subject.
