Conference "La Savoie et les Anglais" (in French), Chamonix Main Town

A great opportunity to learn more about the long relationships between England and Savoie (in French)

featured in Events calendar Updated

Yves Connac, member of the Academie Florimontane, an institution that encourages research on the region of Savoie, will speak about the encounter of these two cultures since the Middle Ages.

In the 13th century, count Pierre II fought with the English king. Queen Anne gave in 1713 a royal crown to Savoie. In the 19th century, Alpine tourism and thermalism developed and Chamonix became the capital of alpinism, drawing many English visitors to the region.

All these landmarks and more will be discussed at the Salle du Bicentenaire, in the centre of Chamonix. Entry is free.
