Chamonix local on housing rights hunger strike

7 summits mountaineer on hunger strike
by Robin Deering | Chamonix Editor | published: 11th May, 2012

Local chef and mountaineer Florent Guillarme has been on hunger strike since Wednesday in an appeal to his landlord to improve living conditons. The story started back in January when Florent was working outside of the Chamonix valley and after a weeks absence, came home to find his home completely flooded. An empty apartment above had sprung a leak and flooded his apartment causing widespread damage.
The neighbouring apartment was broken into by local fire-fighters but the stop cock could not be found - so a call to the owner was made. However the owner was unreachable and local property agent in charge of selling his apartment refused to give entry.
A month later Florent Guillarme still without news from his neighbour has had to pay out for a second rent as his home was uninhabitable.

The angry tenant has started his hunger strike in an attempt to get a reaction form his landlord - so far the mayor of Le Houches has been to see the tenant.

If you want to show your support Florent is currently residing in the car park on the rue des Alpages, Les Houches
