Snow falling down to 1100 metres, as predicted, and the first sprinkling of snow in the town.

As we reported earlier this week temperatures were due to drop last night and today and snow flakes were forecast. And when we woke up this morning in the Chamonix valley that is exactly what we saw!

The cold spell is not predicted to last however, which will be a relief to all those on holiday here for the French half term, and those due to come out next week for the English half term holidays.

With snow on the peaks, travel on the mountain roads gets slowly into winter mode, especially in the Savoie Region. And in some departments, the turn of weather led to the temporary closure of some passes. In Haute-Savoie, however, all the mountain passes are currently open, although caution should be taken when travelling.
