Italian guide dies on Tour Ronde, Mont BlancGuide in deadly fall on Mont Blanc
An young instructor with the Italian mountain military school has suffered a fatal fall on the Tour Ronde on the French side of the Mont Blanc massif.
The 28 year qualified mountaineer fell over 350 metres on Thursday whilst on a steep ski descent of the North face of the Tour Ronde.
The PGHM mountain rescue services from Chamonix did all they could to try to save the man but unfortunately the gendarmerie declared the man dead on the scene of the accident.
The Italian instructor, Simone Gamba, set off early morning with a colleague and by midday had reached the summit of the Tour Ronde.
Setting off from 3792 metres down the steep descent the Italian made several turns before falling which, on such a vertical descent, proved deadly.
Simone Gamba was an aspiring guide and had passed his tests this winter - our thoughts go out to his friends & family.
