by Mikey Bell | | published: 2nd Mar, 2012

With two American friends in town, who were specifically requesting a 'Chamonix cheese-fest', it seemed appropriate enough to head to Le Monchu - as 'Le Monchu' is the local dialect word for 'Tourist'. Coined in the 1800s it is a corruption of the word Monsieur and can still be heard in conversation amongst Chamoniards. Chambre Neuf, Chamonix Centre

Most people know Chambre Neuf for it's apres-ski, which is largely regarded as the best apres-ski in the Chamonix valley. With a live band playing every afternoon and hundreds of people dancing on the tables you would be forgiven for overlooking Chambre Neuf as a great place for lunch. ...more

Le Boccalatte, Chamonix Centre

by Alison Shayler | Ski Editor | published: 21st Feb, 2012

One thing that is obligatory to try when in Chamonix is a fondue. A big bubbling pot of melted cheese that is guaranteed to burn the roof off your mouth, send you into the deepest food coma you've ever had and cause you to put on at least a stone overnight. ...more

Monkey Bar, Chamonix Sud

by Alison Shayler | Ski Editor | published: 21st Feb, 2012

Some friends and I headed over to Monkey Bar recently for a feed. An enormous plate of nachos smothered in salsa, melted cheese, guacamole and sour cream went down well (chilli version available for carnivores), as did a veggie burger and chips. ...more

La Maison Carrier, Chamonix Centre

La Maison Carrier is one of two restaurants belonging to the Hameau de Albert Premier Hotel. It is a cosy, traditional French restaurant where past meets present in a typical Savoyarde style chalet. It offers relaxed dining for those seeking quality traditional, unfussy, earthy, local food without resorting to the ubiquitous fondue and tartiflette. ...more

Restaurant Rendezvous, Les Praz

by Alison Shayler | Ski Editor | published: 23rd Mar, 2011

The Hotel Les Lanchers has always had a solid reputation for good food at reasonable prices. The recent refurbishment included a complete overhaul of the bar and restaurant area that has transformed the atmosphere from friendly but rather old-fashioned to chic and relaxed; the restaurant has been relaunched with a new name to match its new look, Rendezvous. ...more
