23 million on Refurbishments at the Tunnel Des Montets & Cars Can't Get Access

Cars unable to pass through the tunnel due to a 2 hour delay with the electrics

After spending 23 million euros (of public funds and taxes) refurbishing the Tunnel des Montets it seems the planners had forgotten to consider the volume of cars that need to use the tunnel when the col des Montets is closed.

The third rail that provides electricity to the trains in the tunnel isn't safe for cars to pass over, and there would need to be a 2 hour wait before it was switched off and safe to use. By which time another train would be due..!

There would normally be around a half hour wait before cars were taken in convoy through the tunnel, but it seems unlikely this service is going to be resumed any time soon. A meeting is scheduled to take place on the 22nd December to try to resolve the issues.
