Given the difficult terrain at the crash site of Germanwings flight 9525, and the size of the debris area, the commander of Chamonix's PGHM decided to send 5 men to help the search.

Commander Jean-Baptise Estachi told local paper Le Dauphine that his team are "prepared to face working in these conditions, with this type of accident, but what is unique about this crash is the scale".

Part of their training involves not only dealing with mountainous terrain, but also plane crash scenarios.

The men are expected to be on the site of the crash for 12 days, helping with securing parts of the site and forensic investigations.
