In a move to show their progress so far, and to highlight their plans for the future, Chamonix's elected officials got together this week to declare their commitment to the ongoing pollution problems in the valley.

The group announced that they are all now in agreement about banning trucks during times of high pollution levels, and may even agree to making Chamonix car free in the future, perhaps by 2020.

They identified 35 main actions that need to be taken and followed through, notably a progressive ban on International transport, a total ban on euro class 3 vehicles, renovation of houses to make them more energy efficient, and more in depth monitoring of the health of the valleys inhabitants.

Speaking as head of the group, Eric Fournier stressed his "total determination" to achieve all the actions outlined in the plan.
