Chamonix Lift Passes: The Best Deals & Special Offers

Off-Peak Savings & Discounted Lift Passes

featured in News & reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

A lift pass is essential to skiing and snowboarding in Chamonix but it can take up quite a chunk of your budget - fortunately there are a few discounts and reduced rates to be had if you know where to look…

First Snow
We’re hoping that after such a hot dry summer, this winter is going to bring plenty of snow and the Compagnie du Mont Blanc seems to have the same idea with an unusually early opening date of 28th November! Obviously chin-deep pow can not be guaranteed but if you can squeeze in a quick pre-Christmas ski trip then you’ll find lift passes reduced by about 10€ per day from 28th November to 18th December 2015.

Spring Skiing
As with the First Snow, this special offer applies to a period of the winter season when snow conditions are likely to be a little sketchy. However, spring skiing is all about sunshine and beers anyway, so save roughly 10€ per day on your lift pass and enjoy quiet pistes in the morning until the slush forces you into the nearest deckchair. Spring Skiing prices are valid from 9th April until 1st May 2016.

Early Bird
This exclusive special offer is only available through certain accommodation agencies, so check with your holiday provider to see if they can offer this discounted lift pass. Valid from 09/01/16 to 05/02/16 and from 05/03/16 to 08/04/16, the Early Bird rate is approximately 25% less than the standard rate and is applicable to all Mont Blanc Unlimited lift passes, including families and seniors. This can not be found online, you must book through your accommodation agency.

Family Lift Pass
While not discounted as such, the family lift pass is great value if you have two or more children. You pay full price for two adults and one child, with every other child being included free of charge (up to a maximum of four non-paying children). The Mont Blanc Unlimited lift pass includes lots of extra attractions that will keep kids entertained such as free rides on the Alpine Coaster, access to Aiguille du Midi (the Step Into the Void) and use of the swimming pool and ice skating rink.

Chamonix RapidCard
The RapidCard is a flexible option for frequent visitors to Chamonix who want the ease of an annual pass but probably aren’t going to use it often enough to justify the price. The RapidCard works on a pay-as-you-go basis, with an initial 30€ registration fee plus weekly debits depending on how often you use it. You benefit from slightly reduced day rates, every 7th day being completely free, and a loyalty scheme that gives you random special offers throughout the season. You can sign up for your RapidCard from the 1st December 2015.

Work & Ride
The lift pass for seasonal workers offers all the basics of Chamonix Le Pass at the preferential rate of 450€. You must be able to present a contract of at least 2 months duration and 90 hours of work when purchasing the pass; once the two months are up you will have to present proof of continued employment for your pass to remain valid for the remainder of the season. Work & Ride passes can only be bought at Montenvers ticket office from 1st December 2015.

Residents & “Gens du Pays”
For Chamonix residents, the lift pass is perhaps the biggest investment of the winter. From 24th August to 30th November 2015 locals can benefit from reduced rates and staggered payment plans that will keep you from having to busk outside McDonalds to make ends meet. The cheapest passes must be purchased before 9th October 2015, with prices starting from 600€ for Chamonix Le Pass and 780€ for Mont Blanc Unlimited. As ever, there are changes to what the passes include but the gist of it seems to be that the “away-day” tickets to other resorts have been discontinued in favour of unlimited access to certain areas such as Megeve and Saint-Gervais. Most exciting is the news that with the MBU you get a free daily ride on the Alpine Coaster - wheeeeee!

Information and full price details can be found on the Compagnie du Mont Blanc website.
