Eric Fournier spoke last night of the need to support the relief efforts in Nepal, following the catastrophic earthquake & aftershocks that struck over the weekend.

On his facebook page he said that "according to our contacts in Kathmandu, financial support is urgent.. to help pay for emergency facilities such as helicopters, care and to allow rescue vehicles faster access to isolated areas. Due to our extremely strong links with this mountain community, an emergency aid fund of 20,000 euros will be sent from the commune".

A team of 6 from the Haute Savoie group GIS74 is already on the way to Nepal to support search and rescue efforts. They will be helping to find buried victims with their special audio visual equipment, and will more than likely be sending more volunteers in the days to come.

Concerned locals from the Chamonix Valley are also talking about mobilising a group of guides or climbers to fly over to assist.

Today's death toll stands at 3,326 with more than 6000 people injured, not just in Nepal but in neighbouring India and China as well. This report from the BBC shows the moment that a huge avalanche struck Everest Base Camp.

A donation box is now in place in the Mairie in the centre of Chamonix for those wishing to make an additional contribution and here you can find a list of other agencies and charities looking for support.
