Haute Savoie on Orange Alert Due to Heatwave

Hot weather to continue into next week

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

There's no denying the heatwave that's been keeping us all hot under the collar the last few days, and it's likely to continue into next week, raising the 'vigilance' levels to orange.

Last time we were on orange alert was during the floods and storms in early May, but this time it's due to excessive, prolonged heat. Meteo France increased the alert level to orange yesterday 2nd July for the Haute Savoie region as some areas are expected to hit 39 degrees celcius.

This is common sense, however here are their suggestions:

  • Drink lots of water, regularly - even if you're not feeling thirsty
  • Avoid being outdoors in the hottest part of the day
  • Avoid physical effort where possible
  • Keep windows and doors closed during the day & open at night
  • Spend at least 3 hours a day in a cool place
  • Cool or wet your body several times per day
  • Take care of your neighbours, especially the elderly, and ensure they are OK

You can keep an eye on the current alert status here from Meteo France.

Unfortunately with the ongoing heatwave, pollution levels are also expected to worsen.
