Winter 2015/2016 is (fingers crossed) going to bring us some great snow conditions, and along with that the Compagnie du Mont Blanc have up'd their game and are bringing us some fantastic new treats for Christmas.

First on the list is the new mini-funicular that is currently being built at Brevent. The new lift will allow beginner skiers and snowboarders easy access to the Planpraz plateau and the Téléski 2000 poma from the Planpraz gondola station. This new ski-lift, called FUNI 2000, works on the basis of a cabin (gondola style) hoisted onto a chassis that itself circulates on rails or tubes. At a length of 70 metres and a height gain of 37 metres, it is expected that it will transport between 250 to 290 people per hour.

The new Melezes Chairlift in Les Houches will replace the “La Cha” and the “Chamois” drag lifts, which have already been completely demolished. Not only will the new chair be faster and more efficient, it will also be safer and will slow right down at the top and bottom to make getting on and off a lot easier. It will open up a completely new area for skiers. The capacity for this chair is 2000 people per hour.

Les Grands Montets will see a new Snowsports Area for snowboard and ski cross, with two routes: one “BMW” recreational route with video system and stopwatch, perfect for family souvenirs; and another route that meets FIS standards for enthusiasts and ski and snowboard clubs.

The BMW route will be 400m in length and include 3 jumps, 8 whoops and 2 banked turns. While the Enthusiasts route will be 800m with 5 jumps, 10 whoops and 8 banked turns.

For the first year ever the MONT-BANC Unlimited pass will give you access to the Chamonix Valley, Courmayeur… and Evasion Mont-Blanc!

The result of closer relations between the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc and Megève, the MONT-BLANC Unlimited (MBU) pass, from this winter, allows ski access to Courmayeur as well as the Mont-Blanc Evasion area of Megève, Saint Gervais, Les Contamines. Offering you one of the biggest and most stunning mountain playgrounds!

And finally...the news many people in the valley will have been waiting for. A very new, very sparkly and very exciting Chamonix Snowpark! The 1000m long and 100m wide area will be situated to right of the “Téléski du Col” at Le Tour, and will in fact be one of the biggest in Europe. The new freestyle area will be served by a dedicated téléski and a 4 person chairlift and situated between 1900 and 2100m of altitude, benefiting from the significant natural snowfall. There will be several runs to cover various levels of skiers and snowboarders from beginners to advanced users. In addition a “Cool Zone” for relaxing will be be available, complete with sound-system!

So time to get the skis and snowboards out of the cupboard, scrape off the storage wax and get ready to hit the snow!
