Le Cure de France 2015 - 68 Brits Cycling the Alps to Cure Cancer

Le Cure de France is back with an even bigger challenge this year

Some friends of ours are setting off on another epic charity bike ride to raise awareness and money for the Royal Marsden Hospital’s Cancer Research Fund and we're supporting them all the way.

In September 2014, 29 men and women, aged between 25 and 65, took to their recently purchased road bikes, and set off to the Alps. In five days, they cycled over 500km, climbed higher than Everest, including the iconic climbs of Mont Ventoux, Col du Galibier, l’Alpe d’Huez, and more, and raised £135,000 for the Royal Marsden Hospital’s Cancer Research Fund.

Those were the ladies and gentlemen of Le Cure de France, and in 2015, they ride again. Le Cure de France 2015 is a bigger, tougher, and better beast. This year, 68 ‘Curistas’ are returning to the Alps, to cycle further, higher and harder than ever before, and are looking to raise more than £250,000 in the process.

That money will go to fund a research fellowship that has been set up at the Royal Marsden in Le Cure’s name - a research fellowship that is already beginning to revolutionise the way we evaluate, understand and treat breast cancer. You can read more about the fellowship, which will be lead by Dr Charlotte Fribbens and Professor Ian Smith - who will once again be cycling with the Curistas here.

The Curistas are not experienced cyclists; they are not hardened pros. They are everyday people, who have been driven to take to their bikes either because breast cancer has already hit somebody they love, or because they know it will in the future. They are ordinary people, doing something truly extraordinary (Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy has described Le Cure as ‘an awesome challenge, for an awesome cause’) to try to make a difference: they are pushing themselves harder than they have ever been pushed to try to kill cancer.

Le Cure 2015 kicks off on September 9th, and wends its way through some of the Tour de France’s most iconic climbs, cols and crash-spots over the following five days.

You can find out more about the route, and you will be able to follow the Curistas’ progress on twitter and Facebook, using the hashtag #LeCure2015, and the Le Cure twitter’s handle, @lecuredefrance

Le Cure 2015 is sponsored by Carling, Cutfield Freeman, the Cinnamon Kitchen, Arla, Vulpine Cycling and more. Read more about our sponsors.
