A 30 year old mountaineer sadly fell to his death yesterday, at around 04:30 from a ridge on the Dome du Rochefort.

The ridge line follows the border between France & Italy, at around 3900m, between the Dent du Geant and the Grandes Jorasses peaks.

Apparently the three members of the party were not roped together when one of them fell. The PGHM were called by the other 2 members of the party, but sadly the mad had already died from his injuries.

*Update 28th July: Sad news has come to light that the climber has been named as Dutchman Martjin Seuren, one of Ueli Steck's climbing partners. Seuren was part of a team of friends and Alpinist partners who were working with Steck on his attempt to climb 82 4,000m peaks this summer.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
