Two of Chamonix's favourite visitor attractions are due to be closed later this year for renovation and improvements to their visitor experiences.

Firstly, the Montenvers Mer de Glace site will see renovations taking place on the panoramic restaurant and to the Grand Hotel. This work will start in May 2016 but the site will not close until 5th September for some of the major works to be completed, re-opening again on 16th December 2016. From 17th December the site will be partially re-opened with access to the gondola, ice cave and the new panoramic restaurant. All of the work is due to be completed by the end of July 2017.

Secondly, the Tramway du Mont Blanc will have renovations done to around 50 percent of its tracks, which will see this attraction closed between 18th September and 16th December inclusive.

Around 6 million euros is being spent on each site to make these improvements.

Other attractions such as the Aiguille du Midi, Step into the Void and the Panoramic gondola will remain open. Find summer opening dates for lifts and other attractions in Chamonix and more about the summer lift system
