Top reasons to come skiing in Chamonix for Easter 2016

Make the most of your Easter holidays with a ski trip

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Whilst last year's Easter holidays came quite late for most ski resorts, this year Easter Sunday falls on 27th March with the UK school holiday dates falling anywhere between 21st March and 15th April 2016.

Thankfully this year you'll be able to bring the family to a wider choice of ski resorts, and Chamonix is one of them! As well as the favourable dates, here are some more reasons we think you should come skiing 'en famille' at Easter.

Cheaper deals

Towards the end of the ski season you'll find not only find great deals on flights, accommodation and transport but also lots of resorts start to offer cheaper lift passes too. If you want to take some of the hard work out of arranging your trip, speak to one of the tour operators who offer some great package deals. Find all the current special offers we have for Chamonix.

More skiing time

By Easter the nights are getting much lighter, and the bonus of this is that the ski lifts stay open longer so you get to ski for longer - Hooray to that! Each individual lift will have its own clock or information board with closing times on so take full advantage and ski until the sun goes down.

Warmer weather

Easter has got to be one of our favourite times to ski, and that's down to the weather. Who doesn't like blue skies and sunshine whilst they're skiing around, stopping for a lunch break in a deck chair soaking up the sun? OK it's not guaranteed to be sunny and warm every day in Chamonix, but the chances are much higher at this time of year. Don't forget to pack your suncream!

Eating outdoors

With warmer weather comes the opportunity to eat and drink outdoors, and you'll have plenty of options at this time of year. Soak up the sun as you tuck into your tartiflette and beer on the terrace at one of the many mountain restaurants and bars, or enjoy a piste side picnic if you want to avoid the crowds, and savour the amazing mountain views in relative silence.

It's perfect for short ski breaks

If you can't commit to a whole week away over Easter (or at any time in the ski season for that matter) you can still ski in Chamonix for anything from two to five days with Ski Weekends. Many accommodation options can only be booked for a full week during the holidays, but this company have teamed up with a choice of accommodation partners that are keen to offer short stays. They operate in 23 different locations around the Alps and you can stay mid week or on weekends, whatever suits you or your family's needs.

It's easier to drive over

If you fancy a bit more freedom on your ski holiday, then driving to Chamonix can definitely give you that. You don't have to worry about extra baggage charges and you may not even need snow chains when you get here (although take them just in case since mother nature can be unpredictable!) Then once you're here find where to park. If you don't want to self-drive then travelling by coach is also a good option - let someone else do the navigating while you take a nap.

So what are you waiting for? Get those suitcases dusted off and get booking! We'll see you on the slopes...
