Updates on Hiking & Summer Lift Access

Spring hiking can be dangerous so please take caution

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Chamonix Editor Updated

After the recent heavy rain falls and landslides throughout the valley the steep trails that can currently be accessed from the valley floor are more dangerous than normal for this time of year.

The following information has been issued by the Compagnie du Mont Blanc:

"Access to Montenvers via Caillet is NOT recommended due to remaining steep snowfields along the way. The Mottets trail is the recommended one to take.

Important: spring trail conditions require appropriate hiking equipment (boots+poles).

The Grand Balcon Nord trail from Plan de l’Aiguille to Montenvers is NOT advised due to steep remaining large snowfields."

The the majority of lifts due to re-open on 13th June 2015 this should allow easier access to the higher slopes rather than negotiating the steep valley sides! In addition to this the CDMB have informed us that maintenance work has been planned on the Flégère cable car this autumn. Therefore the Flégère area will be closing on Sunday, September 6th 2015 in the evening instead of September 20th initially planned.
