Skiing Areas in the Chamonix Valley
The Chamonix lift system consists of several distinct and very different ski areas high above a steep-sided valley where the town and its villages are located. Chamonix is often criticized for being 'disjointed' however this is perhaps a little unfair as it is the physical geography of the valley that largely dictates this situation whilst also giving each of the ski areas - Brevent & Flegere, Les Grands Montets, Le Tour & Vallorcine (Domaine de Balme), L'Aiguille du Midi / La Vallee Blanche and Les Houches - their unique character.

Skiing & Snowboarding in Chamonix
Whilst Chamonix is a mecca to freeride and Backcountry Skiing, the whole area is one giant natural fun park and there is something for everyone here. Take a look at our inside information on where to find the best Beginner Areas, the Best Piste Runs, challenging pistes for Advanced Skiers, the best Off-Piste Skiing, Chamonix's Snowparks, and importantly, the Best Lunch & Sun Spots! We've also compiled some information on Cross-Country Skiing in the valley, and Handiski - skiing for the disabled. And, just in case, there is a section on where to ski on Bad Weather Days.
Avalanches, Mountain Safety & Awareness
The mountains provide a spectacular playground for skiers, climbers, mountaineers, yet their beauty can also be deadly. High mountain terrain can be subject to extreme weather conditions, rock falls and avalanches. You should always take note of safety warnings and we always recommend you hire a mountain guide when heading into high mountain terrain. Be aware and be safe!
Non-Skiing Activities in Chamonix
Never fear, there is plenty for non-skiers to do in the resort. The village has plenty to offer if skiing/snowboarding isn't your cup of tea. From a range of alternative mountain pursuits to more sedate cultural or therapeutic options, you can make it as action-packed or as relaxed as you like! And of course, you can still enjoy the peaks of the mountains by buying a pedestrian lift pass to have lunch with your skier friends, or simply to enjoy the views.
