Chamonix Snow Report: 17th March 2014

Sunshine for St Patrick's day in Chamonix

featured in Snow report Author Robin Deering, Chamonix Editor Updated

We have now had two weeks of perfect sunshine and very warm temperatures in Chamonix and in some places the slopes have started to suffer.

The conditions have been great, with wonderful spring skiing everywhere and fast piste skiing on the north-facing slopes. However on the lower and sunnier pistes the snow is starting to get slushy by the afternoon.

We were up on the sunny side on the valley, skiing Brevent at the weekend and noticed even right up top the snow was starting to get very soft.
Nevertheless the weather was perfect for long sunny lunch stops and apres on the restaurant terraces.
Over on the Grands Montets we can say the pistes are in excellent condition, considering the weather, especially if you're skiing early. Off-piste is also perfect. Perfect for practising moguls.

Lorne reminds us not to panic and "keep skiing, keep smiling; only 4 weeks left until most lifts close for winter!"

The forecast is mentioning a bit of a disturbance coming in at the weekend, perhaps too early to predict any kind of snow fall but we're confident there is some more white stuff on it's way...
