Chamonix Snow Report: 1st April 2014

featured in Snow report Author Robin Deering, Chamonix Editor Updated

What a great past week we have had in Chamonix, after a weekend dump followed by a cold spring week lead to some amazing conditions. No fresh snow this week but the conditions are holding up nicely with some forgiving soft pistes along the valley.

Spring ski conditions continue along the whole of the valley with 108 cm at Brevent, 260 cm at Flegere, 180 cm at Balme, 290 cm at Grands Montets and 105 cm at Les Houches.
A rain/snow shower risk is on the forecast for later on in the week but more on that later..

Lorne made it up to ski Brevent and Flegere to avoid the early morning queues at the Aiguille du Midi..
"a 10am start up Brevent to cross to Flegere where the pistes hadn’t been groomed and were horrible firm semi-formed moguls, so back over to Brevent for a few nice pistes."

Charlie made a Monday morning run up the north east couloir of Pointe d'Orny, on the Swiss side of the Mont Blanc Massif...
"After skinning around to the Fenetre de Saleina, we shot across the Trient plateau and put skins on once again to reach the summit of the Pointe d'Orny.
Once in the line, the snow was good but not classic. Slightly crusty but still cold and really fun to ski. Smiles all round."

For those on holiday this week in CHamonix, there is plenty to do from ski touring courses to French courses and from free beers to late night clubbing.
