Chambéry Airport
Although Chambéry is by no means the biggest airport in the Alps, it does provide quick access to more ski resorts than any other within just a few hours. The Three Valleys can be driven to in around 1h20, Chamonix or Les Arcs/La Plagne in 1h30, the Southern Alps or Val d'Isère/Tignes in 1h45 and Verbier in 2h50. Aéroport Lyon St-Exupéry
Lyon Saint Exupéry, formerly known as Lyon Satolas, is conveniently situated for many of the Alpine ski resorts. Resorts in the Southern Alps are around a 2h00 drive, Haute Savoie and Tarentaise resorts take about 2h30, resorts in the Espace Killy or Paradiski can be reached in about 3h00 and Verbier just a little longer at 3h15. Lyon Saint Exupéry has 2 main terminals and 1 smaller one; although there are facilities throughout the airport most of the shops and services are based in the Centre between terminals 1 and 2. Geneva International Airport
Geneva is the most conveniently situated airport for the Haute Savoie resorts such as Chamonix, Morzine and Avoriaz; there are also good transport links to the 3 Vallées and Tarentaise resorts. Although there are much closer airports to the Southern Alps, such as Grenoble and Chambéry, Geneva has a greater number of flights to/from more destinations so you may consider it as an alternative if you don't mind a long drive once you've landed. It is worth noting that Geneva Airport is split in two - French and Swiss. Bizarrely it can be much easier to find your way onto the French motorway from the Swiss side of the airport, so you should bear this in mind when hiring a car. ...more
Grenoble Airport
Grenoble airport is centrally located in the Rhône-Alpes and provides access to many of the major French ski resorts; it is most handy for the Southern Alps resorts of Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes, which can be reached by car in around 1h45. Flights from other airports are often diverted to Grenoble as it rarely suffers from poor weather conditions. ...more
Turin International Airport
Turin airport is about 100km from the French border and can be used to access the ski resorts in France. It is probably best for access to Chamonix, which you can get to in around two hours. The Southern Alps resorts are also accessible and will take around three hours to reach Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez. For those heading to the The Valleys and the Tarantaise ski regions, you are looking at a four to five hour transfer time. ...more
