Wondering what conditions are like in resort? Now you can see for yourself, thanks to our network of webcams around the resort. It is one of the best parts of the job installing these babies, invariably hanging over a sheer drop, so we hope you like them!
Whilst the majority of the web cams on the sites are our own, we have started to feature 3rd party webcams to give you the most comprehensive coverage of the resort we can.
The list below shows available webcam images in the order that they were last updated (most recent images at the top).
If you have any ideas for a new location for a webcam please let us know.
While you’re browsing, why not take a look at some of our webcam timelapse videos so you can see what’s been going on over the last 5 days in some of your favourite locations.
This is the only view there is in the valley which gives a complete overview of the Grands Montets ski area - home to much of Chamonix's most infamous ski terrain. In fact the area is so steep and large we have had to tilt the image to get it to fit in a panoramic shaped view, so the true steepness needs 20 degrees adding to it! On the left-hand side, between the cables, is the Lognan area, whereas the small(ish!) summit towards the top right is the top of the 'top cable-car'. The bottom left is the way down towards the 'Dream Forest'.... If you can't see anything but cloud, we suggest the visibility is quite bad either round our camera or on the GM - check our other views out to cross-reference!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so there is not much we need to add.... A view from our panoramic camera, looking across the entire Mt Blanc massif from the Aiguille des Grands Montets on the left, the Drus, the mouth of the Mer de Glace, Les Jorasses, the Aiguille du Midi, the Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Gouter on the right.
A view of Chamonix town centre, overlooking the Place Balmat. This is one of the most popular areas of town and plays host to numerous events, starts of races, and don't forget to turn up here for the New Year's Eve celebrations!
This is the view from the centre of Chamonix overlooking the main church, the Maison de la Montagne (guide office, ski-school, + High-mountain office) with the green copper roof, the start of many of Chamonix's main events such as the Marathon du Mont Blanc and The North Face Ultra-Trail, and in the background the peaks of the Aiguille Rouge ('Brevent/Planpraz/Flegere' ski area). Off-picture to the left is the Chamonix Tourist Office, and the town's Mairie (town-hall) is just edging in on the right-hand side. Also featured are our friends at Hotel Le Chamonix in the centre of the screen. The webcam is situated on the back of Chamonix's own Cinema Vox which shows current film releases including in original language - so they regularly have the latest from Hollywood in English - definitely worth considering a visit when the webcam is showing bad weather (the programme is on their website)!
A view looking down over the Brevent/Planpraz ski area in Chamonix. The area is south facing and gets plenty of sunshine, with several cruisy blues, some steep reds and stacks of off-piste access.
Webcam showing Les Drus and La Verte (4122m) overlooking Les Grands Montets ski area. This area is one of the prime locations for climbing in the region, however there have been some large scale (spectacular) collapses which means the area becomes off limits (one to check before you head off).
Webcam showing Chamonix's main sports area, including from left to right: indoor and outdoor tennis courts, swimming pools, gym, recreation lake, and the running track and indoor ice-rink.
Move your mouse over the image for extra details on the view.
The Aiguille du Midi (3845m) is the highest point accessible by cable-car in the Chamonix valley. The Aiguille du Midi is well known as the start of the famous Vallee Blanche off-piste ski run over the glaciers; and is also one of the access routes to climbing the Mont Blanc (4811m).
One of our personal favourtite views, that of a close up of the summit of the Mont Blanc and its glaciers at a massive 4811m. The Mont Blanc is one of only a handful peaks in the world which is actually easier to conquer than its neighbouring summits - still, its no walk in the park either...
This is a view from the other side of the hill in Italy, from the resort of Courmayeur. When weather conditions are good or bad in Chamonix they can be totally different a short drive through the Mont Blanc Tunnel. So it is always useful to see what is going on there, especially with regards the snow conditions in winter - for that sneaky powder day or when the blizzards are in in Cham, Courmayeur can be basking in sunshine. And the coffee is so much better over there it's worth the drive just for a cup!
Here are the conditions are the top from the Italian side of the Vallée Blanche. The Helbronner is at 3322m so we are talking proper mountain climate here.
This is a view from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi looking at the condition of the arete which leads into the Vallée Blanche - off-piste glacial skiing and access to the high mountains.
Located on the Northern slopes of the Mont Blanc massif, at 5.6km and 200m deep this is the second longest glacier in Europe. See it for yourself with a walk (for the fit!) and/or a train ride up to the Montenvers.
At the top end of the valley the Domaine de la Balme links Le Tour and Vallorcine ski areas to give a fun ski area for beginners down the front slopes and some fantastic tree-lined off-piste for the advanced down the back. usually one of the quieter Chamonix areas... The lift in the picture is the Autannes chairlift.
The daddy of them all, Les Grands Montets with its conditions up close and personal. This camera is at Lognan (1972m), the main meeting area up there - giving a view of the Herse chairlift. This location also plays host the the Chamonix Freeride Days at the end of the season.
This webcam is located at the top of the Prarion Gondola in Les Houches and (weather permitting!) will give you a fabulous panoramic shot of the valley.
Right in the centre you can see the departure point of the pistes/trails from the top station of the Prarion and Chamonix town is just visible in the distance on the valley floor. Towards the top of the image is a view of the entire Aiguilles mountain range cluminating in the snowy peak of Mont Blanc itself. Just below is the distinctive icy formation of the Bionnassay glacier which is also where the Tramway du Mont Blanc terminates at the Nid d'Aigle (Eagle's Nest) refuge. Many climbers start their ascent of Mont Blanc from this side via the "Voie Royale". One further point of interest below Mont Blanc is the Bellevue area of Les Houches, where you will find the Snow Park and the World Cup Schuss des Dames piste in winter - acessed directly from the Bellevue cable car.
