It’s snowing!!! It would appear that winter has shoved autumn to one side for the moment and firmly kicked summer into next year, as we awake this morning to the first snowflakes of the season. Most of the Alps are getting hit today as the latest weather front brings snow to as low as 900m. Temperatures have dropped well into minus figures in the altitude resorts (down to -9 at 1800m) and are only just hovering above zero at 1000m.
Of course, October is the month that you can officially come out the closet and start get excited about the winter without thoroughly annoying your non skiing/boarding buddies. This month London will be hosting the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show at Olympia and the London Freeze at Battersea, whilst Les Deux Alpes starts of the alpine winter season properly with the Mondial du Freeski and the Mondial du Snowboard at the end of the month/early November. Our video reporter, James Fisher, will be at all of them to bring you the highlights if you can’t make it yourself.
However, if you’re one of those people for whom the summer is merely an inconvenient hiatus in your time on the piste (especially after the summer we’ve just had!), then I assume you know that you can already ski on the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes? The area opened for the season last weekend and is open daily from 8.30am – 2.45pm. Conditions are reported to be not bad at all!
Our Skinets reporting team will be in full swing from December, with our regular snow, video and après reports keeping you up to date with what’s happening both on and off the piste. Until then keep an eye on our News section for the latest info from resort.
Right, well that’s my weekend sorted, off down the cellar to get my kit out! Did you hear us? IT’S SNOWING!!! :O)
