Mont Blanc seen from the path up to the Albert 1er refuge

News has just reached us that an accident yesterday afternoon ended with one death and another walker seriously injured after the pair fell over 150m whilst hiking in La Vormaine near Le Tour.

The party of three Swedish walkers, made up of a brother and his two sisters, all aged between 16 and 22 years old, were making their way along the summer path through La Vormaine headed towards the Albert 1er refuge.

For reasons unknown, it seems the group made a wrong turn and lost the path. Somehow, the two girls ended up falling over 150m. Both the Securite Civile and Gendarmie rescue helicopters were launched at around 16:00 yesterday to intervene. One of the sisters was pronounced dead at the scene, whilst the other was evacuated in a serious condition.
