Les Grands Mulets Refuge (3051m), Massif du Mont-Blanc

Base for ski touring & mountaineering at the north face of Mont Blanc

Featured in:

Open between late March and late July this refuge is situated on top of a rocky outcrop and gives direct access to the North face of Mont Blanc.

It can be fairly busy in spring due to its location as skiers are keen to ski tour on Mont Blanc to reach the summit and then descend via this route. This is also the route to climb Mont Blanc if you want to follow in the footsteps of the original climbers Balmat and Paccard as they did this ascent in 1786.

This is a fairly large refuge with 68 beds available when it is guarded and 16 beds during the rest of the year. Bedding is provided but for hygiene reasons you are obliged to provide your own sheet or sleeping bag liner.

During the guarded period, accommodation can be booked on a half-board, B&B or bed only basis with discounts for Alpine Club members, guides and youths.

Please contact the refuge directly for this season's prices and opening/closing dates.

Getting Here

Main access to the refuge is from the Aiguille du Midi cable car, crossing the Bossons Glacier, via the Jonction and up the valley to the refuge above. Although there are several other routes that will take you there too, depending of course on weather conditions and snow levels.
