Tête Rousse Refuge (3,167m), Chamonix
High mountain refuge with beautiful views over the Bionnassay ridge and glacier
Open from May to September, it's one of the main overnight huts used whilst attempting to summit Mont Blanc.
Refurbished in 2003, it offers 72 beds on a half-board or breakfast-only basis. The restaurant is also open to day visitors and it's a popular stopping point for alpinists.
The refuge is not staffed during the winter but one dormitory of 12 beds is left open for mountaineers to use on a self-service basis.
This is a popular refuge and booking in advance is essential. Bivouacking is permitted but spaces are limited to 50 tents.

Worth knowing
There is also a Base Camp situated at 3,000m, which is essentially canvas tents with camp beds. There is no duvet, blanket or pillow provided, so you will need to bring a warm sleeping bag designed for very low temperatures if you're staying here. Catering for those staying at Base Camp is offered at the refuge itself.

Directions
You can access the refuge on foot after taking the Tramway du Mont Blanc from Les Houches or St Gervais and ascending a further 795m on foot. This height gain allows you the opportunity to acclimatise before your summit attempt or other high mountain activities.
