About the surrounding area
Located just outside Chamonix, on the road that takes you to Argentiere, Les Praz is just a 20-minute walk from the main town. It is a great place to stay, not only because of its picturesque mountain landscapes, but also because of the easy access it provides to one of the best ski areas in the valley, Flégère, to which it is connected via a cable car that departs from the centre of Les Praz. There are also regular buses that will transport you to any corner in the valley.
Les Praz is picturesque village on the northern outskirts of Chamonix centre, making it rather sought after for accommodation and property. The village is surrounded by forests and streams, an idyllic mountain hideaway and a popular place to live.
Les Praz has a small but reliable choice of restaurants, both on and off the ski area. The renowned Rendezvous Restaurant is a great option for local Savoyard classics and traditional French cuisine. If you're celebrating a special occasion, you can head to La Cabane des Praz, near the golf course, for some fine dining or the Eden Restaurant, serving a wonderful combination of contemporary and classic French cuisine, while if you prefer a simple pizza or pasta lunch, Le Castel is a good choice.

The beautiful Aiguilles Rouges Natural Park can be accessed via the Flegere cable car, and then the Index chairlift, both usually open in the summer. Its trails cross the massive protected area and range from leisurely short strolls to challenging hikes and even ski touring routes. Things to Do nearby
There is plenty on offer in both in the winter and summer months. During the winter the Flegere cable care gives skiers and boarders access to the Flegere ski area which has a good selection of moderate to difficult pistes. It is also linked to the Brevent ski domaine which has plenty of off piste to keep more advanced skiers entertained. La Praz also offers a great 6km circuit cross-country ski area
Once summer arrives there are several walking and mountain biking trails that start in Les Praz. Visitors enjoy taking the path up from the valley floor to view the stunning surrounding scenery from the Le Floria cafe, where they can also enjoy a delicious lunch before carrying on to the refuge at Lac Blanc.

There is direct access to the Flegere ski area from the centre of Les Praz, via the cable car that glides over the local golf course up to 1877 metres. From there you can not only enjoy the vast array of moderate, challenging and difficult runs in Flegere but also Brevent, to which it is connected via the 'Liaison' cable car. Flegere is also one of the favourite areas among locals for off-piste skiing.
Avenue Michel Croz is at the heart of the winter apres-ski scene, with live music and DJs playing at a variety of bars. If you prefer a more civilised drink that doesn't involve dancing on the tables, then head to the Rue des Moulins for chic wine bars and excellent restaurants. Chamonix Sud also has a cluster of bars that attract the younger crowd and seasonal workers. Chamonix has three nightclubs, one on the Rue des Moulins and another two in Chamonix Sud.
