Chamonix Dump Alert: 23rd October 2017

We knew the snow was coming. It started as rain in the valley yesterday morning and as temperatures dropped, the rain turned to snow.

This morning the snow level looks like it has come down to town, with sleety-snow falling in the centre of Chamonix.

But what has fallen on the mountain? Here are the snow stats from the available sources this morning:

  • Aiguille du Midi - 3842m - 80cm (+ Avalanche hazard rating of 3/5)
  • Chamonix town & Planards - 1035m - 1cm
  • Grands Montets - 3275m - 10cm
  • Flegere - 1890m - 15cm
  • Flegere - Index - 5cm
  • Brevent - 2525m - 1cm
  • Le Tour - 2270m - 5cm
  • Montenvers Mer de Glace - 1913m - 10cm

Stats courtesy of Compagnie du Mont Blanc weather stations.

The Chamonix forecasts confirm that this cold snap won't last, with temperatures coming back up to 18-20 degrees by the middle of the week.
