Mont Blanc Tunnel Fire Memorial

14th Spadino Memorial

featured in Events calendar Updated

This weekend is the 14th Spadino memorial, a commemorative event for the anniversary of the Mont Blanc Tunnel fire that happened on the 24th of March, 1999.

Like every year a convoy of motorcyclists are expected to drive-through the Mont-Blanc tunnel in memory of Pierlucio "Spadino" Tinazzi and the tragic fire that claimed 39 lives.

Spadino was a security guard on the Italian side of the tunnel who rode into the burning tunnel 5 times to rescue stranded people on the back of his motorbike. On his 5th trip he died whilst attempting to drag a truck driver to safety.

French and Italian bikers are expected to gather in their hundreds at their respective entrances of the tunnel at 14:00,during which time all other traffic will be blocked.
