Ski touring, performance for mountaineers, freeride and off-piste courses

If you are looking to take your skiing to the next level, BASS Chamonix can help you to develop your off piste and all mountain skiing skills in safety. Their IFMGA Mountain Guides are amongst the best in the business with a great deal of experience from around the world.

They offer the following courses throughout the winter season:

Ski Performance Course for Mountaineers:
Develop effective techniques and tactics to improve your off piste skiing. British Alpine Ski School Chamonix in conjunction with Off Piste Performance (Alison Culshaw) offers this very popular course on selected dates throughout the season. This course has been running since 2007 with increasing popularity every season.  It aims to bring together like-minded people to develop their off-piste performance.  Originally it was aimed at mountaineers who already have a good understanding of the mountains and the hazards they can present, and just need to get their skiing dialled! There will be no avalanche awareness training or skinning uphill during this course - it is purely about developing ski performance in the off-piste.  More recently we have found this course has appealed to everyone from guides to mountaineers to ski tourers to non mountaineers - anyone that wants to be part of this like-minded group is welcome. The course is broken down into 4 half day sessions, with a day off in the middle for rest or consolidation.  Your session will either run from 9am - 12, or from 1pm - 4pm, depending on which group you are in.  This will leave the other half of the day free to practice and digest the information you have been given so that you are ready to move on in the next session.

3 Day Off Piste Course - Level 1
This 3 day Off Piste course is designed for any Adult/Teenage skiers who are confident skiing parallel on all groomed piste slopes and wish to develop their skills further for more advanced and challenging terrain. It is an ideal course to develop your Piste Skiing and serves as an Introduction to Off Piste skiing. For example steeper terrain, fresh & deep snow, bumps, slush, icy conditions. Balance is a key element that skiers need to improve to be able to ski varied terrain successfully. We will look at your equipment set up and asses how you are standing over your skis. We will use lots of skills and drills to help make you aware of your position and then help you to develop a good strong posture appropriate to you and the terrain you wish to ski on.

3 Day Off Piste Course - Level 2
This course in for those who have already attend the Bass Chamonix Off Piste Level 1 course in the past and have been recommended to move up to level 2. This 3 Day course will be spending 75% of the time in Off Piste terrain. Whether you are a mountaineer or a downhill skier this course will challenge your technical and tactical skills.  A reasonable fitness level is recommended for this course, off piste skiing can be physically demanding especially when you are working on changing technique to produce more efficient skiing. The course normally consists of 2 days with one of their elite Instructor team working on ski technique and mountain skills and the 3rd day with one of our inspirational UIAGM Mountain Guides skiing an Off Piste route in the Valley.  The day with the Mountain Guide will possible be a day doing the Valley Blanche. However, this may be effected by time of the season or weather conditions.

Freeride Course
Bass Chamonix are offering a 3 day Freeride course this winter which is ideal for those that want to develop their skills and push their ski ability that bit further. In this course you will:

  • Gain more enjoyment from being in steeper, narrower challenging situations.
  • Learn to ski in control and at speed in variable conditions.
  • Tactics and Technique in a variety of terrain – drops, narrow shoots, couloirs, steeps etc.
  • Ski with young inspirational instructors who want to push your skiing to its limits and beyond.
