All in a days cycling!

Two Frenchmen (Fred Bibollet and Yannick Durand) recently completed an impressive display of human endurance by cycling from Faverges to summit Mont-Blanc in a day!! They started at 02.00hrs in Faverges [which is just outside Altbertville on the way to Annecy], where they then proceeded to cycle up to the small village of Bionnassay (at 1400m altitude) in approximately 5 hours. The 60kms up to Bionnassay invovled a steady climb of about 1200m from their original starting destination.

At Bionnassay they swapped their bikes for their feet and set off in the direction of the Nid d'Aigle, passing in front of the Tete Rousse refuge, following the popular ascent route to Mont-Blanc by the Aiguille du Gouter.

The two Frenchmen summitted Mont Blanc a little before 14.00hrs, adding a further 3400m in altitude to their day. The weather slighly hampered their descent but they were able to locate their bikes around 20.00hrs at Bionnassay before pedalling on home and finishing around 22.30hrs! Impressive eh!

Chamonet.com fact : Did you know that the current record for climbing Mont-Blanc is held by Italian Fabio Meraldi, who completed the ascent and descent in a miraculous 6 hours and 45 mins starting from the Italian side in Courmayeur. The record ascent and descent from Chamonix is held by Pierre Gignoux and Stéphane Brosse who completed it in 5 hours, 15 mins and 47 seconds, although they used skis for the descent!
