Brevent opens today

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

The summer 2006 season has officially begun today with the re-opening of the Brévent gondola. The first of the ski areas to open its lifts up for the summer visitors, the 6-man Brévent gondola takes hikers, bikers and sightseers up to the spectacular plateau of Plan Praz (2000m). From here some of the most stunning views of Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi and Les Drus can be enjoyed by everyone. The more energetic can tackle the Grand Balcon Sud, a relatively easy crossing, following the route of the Tour de Mont Blanc across to La Flégère in about 2 hours. This is one of the most popular hiking trails in the valley but hikers should be aware that the Flegere cable car is not opening until Saturday 17th June, so you would need to make the descent back to the valley floor on foot this week.

The gondola is open from 9am – 5pm and a return ticket to Plan Praz costs €12 for adults; €10.20 for juniors (12-15 yrs) and €8.40 for children. The top cable car will open on 25th June.
