Busy weekends ahead on the roads

In anticipation of a deluge of tourists arriving in Chamonix over the coming two weekends; 27th – 30th July and 3rd – 6th August, traffic modifications have been put in place to try and ease circulation on the road for locals.

As of this morning, anyone heading up the valley to Chamonix or on to Switzerland via Martigny is advised to use the diversion from the Les Houches/St Antoine junction via the RD 243 (route des Gaillands) which will avoid the inevitable tail backs onto the RN 205 from the Mont Blanc tunnel. NB. This route is not suitable for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

Road users wishing to take the tunnel through to Italy should be aware that the access road from the Vigie roundabout will be closed (to aid local access to Les Pelerins) and instead you should take the diversion via the Georgeanne crossroads in Les Houches.

These modifications will be in place 8am Friday until 8am Monday both weekends.
