News has broken today that the 2004 ChamJam, Chamonix's yearly BIG snow and music festival, will be taking place in....Soldeu, Andorra?! Presumably the name SoldJam isn't as appealing so the name is being retained.
Apparently the decision by the organisers is related to a lack of support from the local authorities in Chamonix, certainly after disruptions to the festivities during some of the evening entertainments last year. The event has now become big business with new investors, who are no doubt concerned about protecting their returns, becoming involved recently. Soldeu has been developing its resort and is surely to benefit from the extra promotion.
Interestingly the original event, the seasonnaires' Boss des Bosses inter-resort competition (moguls race originally between Val d'Isere and Chamonix), will still be taking place in Chamonix on March 17th. What remains to be seen is how this event will shape up and evolve again perhaps with a greater degree of local organisation. Now, what about the rights to the name....
