Chamonix cinema gets a re-furb

The Cinema Vox in the centre of town has reported that there has been a notable drop in the number of movie goers visiting the cinema compared to previous years. The heat wave in July saw ticket sales plummet to 50% of that in July 2005. The miserable weather in August however, sent people flocking to catch the latest releases, and in total 19000 people passed through the doors during the two peak months of the summer season.

Currently the cinema is undergoing the first of a two stage renovation process lasting 3 months. During this time the large screen will remain open whilst the two smaller screens undergo modernisation. Entry is currently only possible from the Place du Triangle de l'Amitié (opposite the Tourist Office).

The second stage, due to start in November, is centred on the main screen but the entire complex will be closed for the month. Serge Castaldo, cinema director, hopes to open the newly modernised theatre again in December.

Anyone fancying a trip to the pictures this weekend will be glad to know that there are currently four films showing on Saturday evenings (including “The Wind That Shakes The Barley” by Ken Loach, English version, at 7.15pm) and two screenings on all other nights at 6pm and 9.30pm.
