Chamonix gets it right whilst the rest of France says 'Non'

The canton of Chamonix voted Yes in the recent European constitution referendum, with a majority of 62% in favour.

Without the social problems which affect other parts of the country, and few extremists, the vote clearly reflects Chamonix's European and 'international' feel. This feeling was re-enforced by the opinions of the mayor, Michel Charlet, who made it clear that Chamonix lived 'a l'européene' on a daily basis. With two counties on its doorstep and a high number of British residents it is hardly surprising!

Concerns have been raised with regards the ease with which foreign workers, who are high in number, will be able to find employment in resort.
