First lifts open tomorrow!

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

The temperature has dropped and the snow has finally arrived in Chamonix town, so now all we're waiting for are the lifts to open! Well, without getting you too excited (as it's very minimal!), the first lifts will actually be actually opening in Les Houches tomorrow morning (Wednesday) when the Bellevue cable car and the Mont Blanc drag lift will be opening giving access to the beginner area at the top. See the Bellevue 1800 webcam for the piste that will be open (I did say don't get too excited but it's white, in good condition and you can slide on it!!).

Elsewhere in the valley, there is also talk from the Compagnie du Mont Blanc that either Le Tour OR Grand Montets will be partially open this weekend, snow conditions permitting. At Le Tour this is likely to be the Charamillon Gondola and the 4-seater Autannes chairlift and if it is Grand Montets then possibly the 4-Seater Plan Joran chairlift (although this will be contradicting earlier reports that it was not possible to open the chairlift whilst the repair work was being carried out on the Lognan cable car). The Savoy beginner area on the valley floor will also be opening this weekend.

It's not loads, but slowly the area is opening up. Our snow reporter hiked up to Le Tour today and came back with very favourable reports which you will no doubt read about in his next instalment. News on the remaining areas in the valley is still looking like December 23rd although we will of course bring you the latest news as soon as we hear anything.
