Good news for the Tramway du Mont Blanc

featured in News & reviews Author Helen McGrory, Chamonix Reporter Updated

After the substantial rockslides that closed the Tramway du Mont Blanc at the end of last week, repair work has been going exceptionally well and it looks like the Compagnie du Mont Blanc will shortly be able to re-open the route for summer visitors and alpinists. Currently still closed between Bellevue and the Nid d'Aigle whilst the overhead rock face is secured, damage to the actual rails was far less than anticipated and it is hoped that the popular tram will re-open on August 5th 2007.

**The route is also currently closed to hikers and alpinists due to the risk of further rockfall. Anyone heading in the direction of the Nid d'Aigle and beyond must take the chemin de l'Are**
