Mont Blanc gets fruity!

Well it was touch and go whether it would happen, but controversial Danish artist, Marco Evaristti, succeeded at the end of last week, in his quest to paint Mont Blanc red……well at least a bit of it!

On Friday morning, after a long slog from the refuge du Gouter, Evaristti and his team of 16 began creating. 40 minutes later, he was done. Originally wanting to paint an area of 2500m2 with his “bio-paint” made from concentrated raspberries, he settled on a considerably smaller circle (about 8m in diameter), made from sections of red polythene, upon which he hoisted a pink flag and declared it a “Pink State”!

The team that assisted him comprised of mountain guides, a cameraman, a photographer and a number of porters and there was a second photographer in a helicopter to record his momentous creation from the air.

After all the kerfuffle and opposition in the run up to the event you have to wonder if it was worth it, or whether it was just rather a waste of raspberries…..?
