Silent Protest Over Liftpass Price Hikes

The Compagnie du Mont Blanc which manages the lift system in the Chamonix Valley has had a lot of grief for hiking up their prices this winter. An undercover protester or protesters have made their displeasure felt by manipulating the CMB's boards advertising the two lift pass options that were brought in for the 2006-2007 ski season. The billboard displaying Chamonix Le Pass, a 36€ formula which is restricted to pistes below 2700m because it excludes the Aiguille de Midi and Les Grands Montets cable cars, now reads “Chamonix rip-off zone, less for more”. A second poster, which normally proclaims the merits of the Mont Blanc Unlimited skipass at 46€, now has the tagline “Mountain Business Unlimited, Mont Blanc out of bounds”. The protesters obviously feel that the ‘Unlimited' formula is misleading as it excludes, St Gervais, Les Contamines, Megeve and the host of smaller resorts covered by the traditional Ski Pass Mont Blanc. The Ski Pass Mont Blanc is still available but at a prohibitively inflated price.
