Source of the Novotel fire identified amongst the rubble

Following the fire at the Novotel last Sunday, which started at 17h00 when luckily most guests were out still on the pistes, fire investigators were able to pinpoint the cause of the fire very rapidly. Amoungst the charred remains of the hotel restaurant's roof, a small piece of electrial debris showed signs of having sparked, probably caused by a water leak, starting the blaze.

Although fire doors worked correctly, and the majority of the hotel survived the fire, the restaurant needs to be completely rebuilt, some of the upper rooms were in contact with the flames, and smoke penetrated the buildings. The director of the hotel, Michele Aline, suggested it would be the end of the year before the hotel re-opened.
