The work on the new 6 seater chairlift replacing the old Index chairlift progressing without too many problems with the civil engineering work being completed, and 14 pylons being installed by the end of next week.

The higher station is in its final stages of completion replacing the old arrival station and facilitating access to the Combe Lachenal. Questions have been asked in relation to what will become of the old Index chairlift, one of the first lifts to open in the Chamonix valley. At the end of the summer season, after the 18 September, work is to begin dismantling the old departing station to make way for the new chairlift. Although two or three pylons will be removed initially, the remaining pylons will be removed in the spring 2006.

A new terrace at the Aiguille du Midi top station is to be constructed at the end of the spring, offering tourists spectacular views of the Mont Blanc massif and plunging descent of the north face of the Aiguille du Midi.
