That's all folks!

Well that's it for another year. Winter 2005/2006 is now officially over following the closure of the Grand Montets yesterday. But the highest ski area in the Haute Savoie (3300m) does not close quietly and there were many people around to make sure that that did not happen.

The Freeride Days has now become an annual event that sees the season out in style with live music, a water slide, freestyle wall and this year, an 80's fancy dress theme - it was a fashion horror walk of shame! Unfortunately the weather was not in such celebratory mood and it wasn't the sunny beach party atmosphere of last season's end. Not even the plywood palm trees were able to dispel the damp grey feel but that wasn't enough to keep the carzy fools away from the 30m water slide. Always the crowd pleaser, there was quite a number who actually managed to skim across the surface of the pool from one end to the other to rapturous applause from the crowd. For the equally great number that splashed and sank…….there was a hot tub and a vin chaud nearby to warm them up!

Whilst the piste might not have been in tip-top condition at Lognan, it was snowing at the top of the Bochard gondola and there is still plenty coverage up there compared to last year. As if we weren't upset enough that the season is now over when there is still so much snow around, the final insult came today when it snowed all the way down to the town!

The Grand Montets cable car will remain running until May 15th for ski touring and will re-open for the summer season on June 6th
